All things new begin somewhere.
Shiverdown, like any other band, has a story to tell.
The fact that it began in October 2000 is not so special.
It just so happens that that's when guitarist Ben Ayotte
met a skilled and eclectic frontman named Jordan (a
Boston native). Along with bassist Blake Stacy and ex-Genetic
Control/Lizard drummer Lewis Levesques the core of Shiverdown
came to be. Quite quickly the name, and rumors of their
infectious and heavy tunes, became the topic of local
scenesters and other people you hate.
Like any young group of guys who play music, they passed
along some of their rehearsal scraps to friends and
loved ones. With the hopes that it would spread like
a common cold, the band was actually impressed with
the ways of the underground people, eventually gaining
some sort of notoriety that culminated in the opening
slot for a Kittie show in Montreal (December 2001).
Yeah, they made some noise. So much so that Montreal
's independent weekly, Mirror, touted: “Shiverdown
are the top contender in the hard rock/metal scene.”
With a “no sleep, no need” attitude, Shiverdown
continued passing off their tunes to anyone who would
listen. Mitch Joel , an acclaimed local freelance writer
for the likes of Hour, Circus, Blistering.com and others,
actually made it through his stack of promo CDs to Shiverdown's
(mostly because of coaxing by another local luminary).
Joel then passed the demo on to Maurizio Iacono (frontman
for Kataklysm and a guy who knows his way around the
industry). Iacono was looking for something new, something
fresh and something that would impress him enough to
finally do what he had threatened for awhile(actually
encouraged by many to do) - start his own management
company. Hardline Management came to be after a few
showcases and personal meetings with Shiverdown. Now
Maurizio is happy because he finally has a management
company and Shiverdown is happy because they actually
have a manager who gives a shit about them and their
music. So far? Producer J-F Dagenais (Malevolent Creation,
Kataklysm, Misery Index) and Sony/ATV writer/producer
Ashton Price (Kazzer, Amanda Scott) have helped put
Shiverdown's tunes on CD. The idea? Turn metalcore (and
Shiverdown) into a household name.
Fast forward, mid-2003. The band has successfully showcased
for talent leaders The Agency Group and have landed
gigs with the likes of Chevelle, Strapping Young Lad,
Endo, Kataklysm, the Devin Townsend band and the list
goes on. Shiverdown's first demo/EP is prepped in hopes
of securing a recording contract, and the band is powering
through music that combines strapping melodies, excessive
power grooves, insane arrangements and a whole whackload
of attitude. For Shiverdown, it's all about the foundation
- a solid core unit of people who love dropping big,
heavy musical blasts. For Shiverdown, all things new
are beginning. Right here. Right now. This is the start
of the story. |
